Waiting on Wednesday (#45)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

New GirlNew Girl - Paige Harbison
Published : 31st January 2012
Publisher : HarlequinTeen
Wow! This is another one of those books which I have put on my list of books which I am to keep to my eye out for and have forgotton about!
So glad I do WoW posts which makes me go through these lists and remember books like this!
I love the sound of it, the blurb has made me so intrigued! I think it sounds really unique and one of those books which will totally grip me. Definitely high on my wishlist and I love the cover which is always a big plus ;)

-The Blurb :
They call me 'New Girl'...
Ever since I arrived at exclusive, prestigious Manderly Academy, that’s who I am. New girl. Unknown. But not unnoticed—because of her.
Becca Normandy—that’s the name on everyone’s lips. The girl whose picture I see everywhere. The girl
I can’t compare to. I mean, her going missing is the only reason a spot opened up for me at the academy.
And everyone stares at me like it’s my fault.
Except for Max Holloway—the boy whose name shouldn’t be spoken. At least, not by me. Everyone thinks of him as Becca’s boyfriend…but she’s gone, and here I am, replacing her. I wish it were that easy. Sometimes, when I think of Max, I can imagine how Becca’s life was so much better than mine could ever be.
And maybe she’s still out there, waiting to take it back

My Holiday!

Hi everyone!! =)
Hope you are all well, what have you all been up to while I have been away?
Have I missed any book announcements, cover releases etc? Please let me know!!

For any of you who don't know, I went to Gran Canaria on 21st and got back yesterday.
I was silly and only did posts up to yesterday and I am working 8-6 for the next three days so please be patient, some posts may go up late.

Here's a little brief description on my holiday + pictures
I went on holiday with my boyfriend and although we spent a lot of the time at the resort we went out for a few days.
First off we went Palmitos Park where we saw dolphins, parrots, lizards, crocodiles and a few other animals. I had tears in my eyes while watching the dolphin show!
Then we went to Aqualand! This is a water park with some pretty big slides and some very different ones. I haven't ever been to a water park before and I am a big wimp with heights and slides but I actually loved it! So glad I made myself do it as I really enjoyed it.
We spent most of our time at our Resort, for anyone interested it was called 'ifa continental' and it was amazing! Loved it!
Here's a few pics

Other News! -
I just got a hamster. It's a little girl and she is brown and white.
She is so friendly and keeps coming over to the side of the cage. We are leaving her for two days to get used to us though.
Will put a better picture up in a few days

Oh and I also got some awesome books to show you in my next IMM!

Cover Crazy #44

Hosted by The Book Worms
Darkness Before Dawn - J.A. London
Wow! I think this cover takes the whole dresses theme to a new level. I love it!
I know it's not really unique but I think the black and white really adds to this cover.
I love this cover because :
- The dress is so so pretty!
- Really like the font and where it is
- Really think the black and white works for this cover
Dislike :
- Really don't like the position of the authors name, I would have preferred it below the title and a bigger font.
- Although I like this I don't know whether it's a cover which would make me pick this cover up.
- Maybe just something unique would add to this cover

Drowning Instinct - Ilsa J.Bick
Wow, this is one of those covers which stands out for so many reasons. I would DEFINITELY pick this one up if I saw it on a shelf.
I love this cover because :
- This cover tells you so much so quickly and really goes with the title
-I love water in covers and love how the water is used in this one
- The colours used really makes this stand out, love the blurb with the white
- I definitely want to pick this one up and read the blurb to find out what the book is about
- The express of the persons face tells you that this book may be a difficult read
Dislike :
- The authors name is WAY too small

Please note I am on holiday.

This one has really mixed thoughts which always sadly makes me nervous about a book.
Just not sure, it doesn't jump out at me :/

I am really shocked that this book doesn't have really positive reviews. I enjoy watching this series although I am really behind. Don't think I will be reading this series though.

Pretty TwistedPretty Twisted - Gina Blaxill
I remember seeing this around and thinking it sounded really good and like the sort of book which I was enjoying at that time.
I can't believe that I haven't read this one still! And for once this is actually one which I did get for review (when I say it's not one for review I mean it's one which I didn't get from publishers, I review all books)
Any way, since I got this one I got so many other books which I have been more desperate to read than this one.
Hopefully one day soon I will make time for this! I know it has mixed review though which puts me off.

The Blurb
Ros has a secret crush on Jonathan. Jonathan is massively hung up on Freya (even after she dumps him). And Freya? Well, Freya is a beautiful enigma. Even more so when she goes missing without a trace..."Pretty Twisted" is narrated in alternating chapters by Jonathan (16) and Ros (14) who meet online at a time when things are going sour for Jonathan. His stunning girlfriend, Freya, is away at college and they are growing apart - consequently, he is struggling with his own sense of identity. Ros is also experiencing some problems - one of her friends is dating an older man whose strange behaviour gives Ros cause for concern. Meanwhile, the local news has been reporting some kidnappings of teenage girls. So when Freya dumps Jonathan, then seems to disappear off the face of the earth, he enlists Ros' (somewhat reluctant) help in tracking down the girl he still loves. With danger lurking around every corner, their stories become inextricably linked in a way nobody could have predicted..

This or That With Amanda

Please welcome Amanda from The Vintage Bookworm to Books for Company!

Thank you for joining us!
Hi! This is Amanda from The Vintage Bookworm. I have been blogging on and off since 2008, but I didn't open up The Vintage Bookworm until December of 2010. I'm 19-years-old, married and we have a 7-month-old son named Brayden. I've been a major book-a-holic for most of my life, since learning to read when I was 5. Even before I learned how to read I loved books. I remember sitting in my Uncle Tim's huge recliner with a big book in my lap, "reading" to my stuffed animals.
Other than my love for reading, I'm also an aspiring Young Adult author. I'm currently working on an Urban Fantasy Romance, dealing with mermaids, witches, werewolves and a lot more! This is my first year I'm not actively participating in NaNoWriMo, since I was already working on this long before November started.
I post mostly Young Adult book reviews on my blog, since that is mostly what I read, but you will see a couple of Adult titles on there as well ever once in a while. I also participate in weekly memes most of the time, but there will be a couple of weeks that I don't post them. I try and post reviews every Monday, Thursday and Sunday.
If you'd like to know more about me and my blog, please feel free to stop by and leave me a comment or send me an e-mail. I'm always looking forward to meeting new bloggers and readers. =)

Characters - What personality traits do you prefer in characters of the opposite sex?
Shy or Bold? Neither. Maybe somewhere in the middle? Sometimes characters call for shyness and some boldness. But middle ground is best!
Arrogant or Humble? Humbleness is always better!
Courageous or Fearful? Courageous. It's very annoying when someone is always scared. It's good to have a Courageous character every now and then.
Mature or Immature? Mature. Immature is always annoying.
Leader or Follower? Either way is fine, it all depends on how they play their part.
Sociable or Loner? Depends on the book. I was somewhere in between in high school. Sometimes I was sociable, and a lot of the time I liked to keep to myself. Whatever works for the character.

Random :
Light or Dark? Dark. Though lately it's been mostly light. But I prefer working during the night.
Sea or Sky? Hmm, sea. I love the water.
Lunch or Dinner? Dinner, a lot more food. ;) I have a high metabolism and love food.
Warm or Cold? Cold. I live in FL, so it's way too hot. So I love when it gets cold.
Strips or Dots? Depends on my mood. Sometimes I prefer Stripes, sometimes I prefer dots.
Past or Future? Sometimes I think the past, to change a few things. But if it weren't for the past, what would we learn? So I choose future. Always keep going forward.

My Thoughts (Jodie) - Thanks Amanda for your awesome answers. I never get bored of reading these, I love seeing what other people will pick. I mostly agree with all your answers!

Waiting on Wednesday (#44)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

StartersStarters - Lissa Price
Published : 4th April 2012
Publisher : Random House
The amazing Lauren from Random House sent an email out with 4 new dystopian books which will be released in 2012 and 2013.
Starters was among the 4 books and as it's the first to be released out of the four and is released near my birthday I had to do a WoW for it!
First off, how creepy is this cover? I love it though, so unique and stands out so much!
We don't have a lot of information of this book but what I do know sounds really awesome, I am so intrigued!

-
The Blurb :
Goodreads -
The first in a futuristic thriller series featuring a dangerously vain society where youth is coveted at an impossible price, and one girl has the ability to bring it all crumbling down.
-
Lauren -
An American screenwriter, publishing in April 2012, is an action-packed  thriller set in a world where eternal youthfulness can be had – at a price. One girl has the ability to bring it all tumbling down . .

Paperback or Hardback? (#30)

Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1)Leaving ParadiseLeaving Paradise - Simone Elkeles
>> Paperback 1 <33
Paperback 2 >>
This one is really easy for me, paperback 1!
I really like PB 1, I can't really say why I love it so much but I really do.
Such a simple but great cover which seems to mean so much. I do like PB 2 but it doesn't hold as much meaning at PB 1

<< Paperback 1
Paperback 2 <3 >>-
This is another really easy one for me. Paperback 2! Paperback 1 would never draw my attention, it just seems a bit childish and what's the random yellow for at the bottom?
PB 2 seems much more mature and also looks like quite a fun and easy read as well as a girly read.

DeceptionDeception (Haunting Emma, #1)Deception - Lee Nichols
<< Hardback
Paperback </3 >>
I have to admit I think I have never been attracted to this series because of the covers. They just aren't the sort of covers which I am attracted too.
If I had to choose one it would be the PB as I feel it looks more professional than the HB. The HB is quite strange, random colours with nothing really unique.
Please note, some covers l feature are also in other formats. For example a HB cover is usually also in PB and a PB cover is also sometimes on a HB etc.
Also sometimes the PB may be a UK one and the HB may be USA.
It's just a way to compare covers.

Cover Crazy #44

Hosted by The Book Worms
Tracing Stars - Erin E.Moulton
Wow! I absolutely love the effect of this cover. It's really one of those covers which keeps your attention. It's looks like half computer graphics and half an actual picture! Which is both good and bad.
I am so jealous of this girl, wish I was here ;)
I love this cover because :
- Love the colour of the title and how it uses all the colours from the sky
- It's uses the sea in a different way from any other covers ; How it's night time therefore dark
- Love all the different colours, so pretty
- It's such a unique cover
- It goes with the title and blurb
Dislike :
- I kinda wish it hadn't been so edited, it's a lovely picture so the graphics kinda ruin parts (like the sea) of the cover.
-
I love this cover because :
- You can tell that this is part of the Wings series straight away
- Love the use of the water in this one, beautiful
- This is my favourite cover out of the series, the other covers feel much 'older' and don't look like YA books
- Love the creamy colour with the blue
- I like the little tagline at the top and how it doesn't interfere with the picture
Dislike :
 - I am just not sure about the title and colour, I feel it takes more away from the picture than adds to it.
- The authors name doesn't feel big enough for the importance of the author
