Patricia Briggs series

Patricia Briggs has quite a big collection of books which she has written. Here are some of books which l am hoping to read in the future. Would love to hear if you have read any of these and what you thought if you have.
Here's the whole list of her books.
Mercedes Thomas Series

#1 Moon Called
Werewolves can be dangerous if you get in their way, but they'll leave you alone if you are careful. They are very good at hiding their natures from the human population, but I'm not human. I know them when I meet them, and they know me, too.
Mercy Thompson's sexy next-door neighbor is a werewolf.
She's tinkering with a VW bus at her mechanic shop that happens to belong to a vampire.
But then, Mercy Thompson is not exactly normal herself ... and her connection to the world of things that go bump in the night is about to get her into a whole lot of troub
le.
Moon Called was released in 2006 and the 6th book in the series is due to be released in 2011.

Harper Connelly series

#1 Grave Sight
Harper Connelly has what you might call a strange job: she finds dead people. She can sense the final location of a person who's passed, and share their very last moment. The way Harper sees it, she's providing a service to the dead while bringing some closure to the living-but she's used to most people treating her like a blood-sucking leech. Traveling with her step-brother Tolliver as manager and sometime-bodyguard, she's become an expert at getting in, getting paid, and getting out fast. Because for the living it's always urgent-even if the dead can wait forever.

Jenny Downham - Before l Die

Started: 25th November 2010
Finished: 27th November 2010
Rating : 5/5

The Blurb:
Tessa has just a few months to live. Fighting back against hospital visits, endless tests, drugs with excruciating side-effects, Tessa compiles a list. It's her To Do Before I Die list. And number one is sex. Released from the constraints of 'normal' life, Tessa tastes new experiences to make her feel alive while her failing body struggles to keep up. Tessa's feelings, her relationships with her father and brother, her estranged mother, her best friend, her new boyfriend, all are painfully crystallized in the precious weeks before Tessa's time finally runs out. BEFORE I DIE is a brilliantly-crafted novel, heartbreaking yet astonishingly life-affirming. It will take you to the very edge.

My Review:
On the front cover it says 'A book that will make you happy to be alive'. This book for me did exactly this and more, it made me appreciate everything in my life which you sometimes don't always realise how lucky you are to have.
Tessa is a very unique person which Jenny Downham couldn't have made any more real, her emotions, her character, her actions all feel so real when your reading this book. Any author who writes a book on this topic needs to find real emotions and a connect to the story to make this story and everything in it feel real. Without this the reader would struggle to feel the emotion which is needed to come across in this sort of story. Jenny wrote this story in a way l didn't think was possible unless you went through this sort of thing yourself.
Jenny Downham has managed to make a topic which is a very difficult to write about written with so much heartfelt emotion.
Some lovely lines in this book which along with Tessa will make it impossible for any reader to not feel some sort of empathy to the story.
This book will stay with me for a long time and so will Tessa.

L.A. Weatherly - Angel

Just stayed up to finish this book! Enjoy =)

Started : 22nd November 2010
Finished : 25th November
Rating : 4.5/5
The Blurb :
In a world where angels are beyond redemption, Alex thinks he's found one that might deserve mercy. Alex is a ruthless assassin - of angels. Forget everything you've heard about them before. Angels are not benign celestial creatures, but fierce stalkers whose irresistible force allows them to feed off humans, draining them of their vitality until there is barely anything left. As far as Alex is concerned, the only good angel is a dead angel...until he meets Willow. She may look like a normal teenager but Willow is no ordinary girl. Half-angel, half-human, Willow may hold the key to defeating the evil angels. But as the hunter and the hunted embark on an epic and dangerous journey and Willow learns the dark and terrifying secrets of her past, Alex finds himself drawn to Willow...with devastating consequences. Eoin Colfer reinvented the fairy, Stephenie Meyer reinvented the vampire, L.A. Weatherly reinvents the angel! This is a heart-pounding, knuckle-whitening, paranormal romance action-adventure for fans of the "Twilight" series. This is the first in a devastating new trilogy.

My Review :
After being recommended this book l was straight away attracted to the cover even though l am usually a bit put off with a cover with a person on the front. This cover mixed Angel and Evil together just by the picture and one line, this was enough to snatch me away from my big big pile of books and read this one.
After my first impression being good l felt after a few chapters how distinctive this book is from other paranormal books out at the moment, it's a nice refreshing feeling to read a book which feels a little bit more realistic and unique(depending on what other paranormal books you have read l guess)
This book l found was very gripping from the beginning then the pace slowed down in the middle before then soon growing in pace towards the end again. The middle is focussed more on feelings and letting the reader getting to know the characters.
L.A. Weatherly got it just right with supplying the reader with enough 'information' to keep the reader interested but didn't give too much away which is a lot easier when you write the book from two peoples point of view.
Really enjoyed this read, just didn't quite connect as well with Willow as l have with other main characters in 5/5 star books.

Stacia Kane

Stacia Kane is a pretty new author, her first book released in 2008, she now has two different series of books currently out. Her Downside Ghost series has 3 books which were all released this year! They are as follows (There are a number of different covers but these were my favourite) :

Downside Ghost series

#1 Unholy Ghosts

THE DEPARTED HAVE ARRIVED.
The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully tattooed witch and freewheeling ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for banishing the wicked dead. But Chess is keeping a dark secret: She owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump, who wants immediate payback in the form of a dangerous job that involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it. Hell, yeah.

Megan Chase Series

#1 Personal Demons
Megan promises listeners to her new radio call-in show that she'll "slay their personal demons," and they believe her. So do the personal demons... although she doesn't know it, Megan is the only human without a demon on her shoulder! Megan and her allies - a demon lover who both protects and seduces her with devilish intensity, a witch with poor social skills, and three cockney guard demons - have to deal not only with the personal demons, but a soul-sucker, ghosts of Megan's past, and a reporter who threatens to destroy Megan's career!

Angel theme!

Well at the moment l am currently reading 'Angel - L.A Weatherly' which l find myself enjoying quite a bit, it's very different from the only other Angel book series which l have read 'Hush hush and Crescendo' and so decided to have a look around for other angel books which l thought you might enjoy.
I found these :

Alexandra Adornetto - Halo series

#1 Halo
Nothing much happens in the sleepy town of Venus Cove. But everything changes when three angels are sent from heaven to protect the town against the gathering forces of darkness: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. They work hard to conceal their true identity and, most of all, their wings.
But the mission is threatened when the youngest angel, Bethany, is sent to high school and falls in love with the handsome school captain, Xavier Woods. Will she defy the laws of Heaven by loving him? Things come to a head when the angels realize they are not the only supernatural power in Venus Cove. There′s a new kid in town and he′s charming, seductive and deadly. Worst of all, he′s after Beth.
Due for release on 20th January 2011 in paperback, already released in hardback. The best place to buy the hardback which l have found is Waterstones for £4.99.
#2 Hades - Due for release in 2011

Elizabeth Chandler - Kissed by an Angel Series

#1 Kissed by an Angel
Ivy always believed in angels. When she meets Tristan, it's the love of a lifetime. When he dies, her heart is broken and her belief in angels vanishes. And without that belief, she is unable to feel Tristan's presence when he returns--as an angel. Now Ivy is in terrible danger, and Tristan is struggling to save her. How can he protect her if she's lost her faith in angels?
These book were first realeased in 1995!! The 4th one is due to be released in 2011. I absolutely love the first book cover, definitely a book l would pick up and be interested in reading, the second two book covers for the 2nd and 3rd books l am not so sure about but then the 4th one is even more amazing than the first one, so simple yet very interesting book cover!
Here they are in order -

22.11.10

Lucy Diamond - Over you

Over You - Lucy Diamond
Started : 18th November 2010
Finished : 22nd November 2010
Rating : 3.5/5

The Blurb
Josie goes back a long way with Nell and Lisa-they've been flatmates, soul-mates, and best mates and, what now seems a lifetime ago, have all lived in London in a succession of grotty flats. Finding a photo of the three of them together on a sun-kissed beach has prompted Josie into proposing a reunion for things are different now-for a start, those glorious, multi-colored crop tops and scant bikinis have (in her case, anyway) been exchanged for all-in-one black swimsuits and cover-all sarongs. Now Josie is married with kids, Nell has been traveling and carries the baggage of several failed romances, and Lisa is on the path to career glory (and the salary Premiership) . So will Lisa still be the plump one, and Nell the laid back hippy she has always been? Nothing is ever entirely predictable, and as the evening ensues, Josie discovers that there are secrets lurking between them that are ready to be revealed, and that her own life is about to change forever.

My Review:
Where to start with this book?
This is a strange book for me to say whether l loved it or not, the blurb l feel basically tells the story and find it pretty cliche for the rest of the book. I therefore didn't connect greatly with the story line, feeling like l was just reading a pretty plain storyline that didn't ever have me gripped or unable to put the book down. It's the sort of book you would read if wanted a easy going book to read while you have a lot on your mind or are busy and can only read in small sections, l don't think this is the sort of book you would want to sit and read a big chunk of in one go.
However l thought this book was written in a way where even though it was pretty predictable all the way through l still connected to the main character, Josie and therefore found l enjoyed this book.

20.11.10

Will be looking out for these

I am loving reading a series of books at the moment, getting to know the characters in the first one then the story continuing, saves the disappointment of a great book being over!

Lisa McMann - Dream Catcher series

#1 Wake
For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people’s dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie’s seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.
She can’t tell anybody about what she do
es they’d never believe her, or worse, they’d think she’s a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn’t want and can’t control.
Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else’s twisted psyche. She is a participant…

#3 Gone

Aprilynne Pike - Wings series
#1 Wings

Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.

Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.
In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.
#3 Illusions (To be released in 2011)

Joss Stirling - Finding Sky

Started : 16th November 2010
Finished : 18th November 2010
Rating: 4/5

The Blurb :
You have half our gifts, I have the other . . . When English girl Sky, catches a glimpse of bad boy Zed in her new American high school, she can't get him out of her head. He talks to her with his thoughts. He reads her mind. He is the boy she will love for ever. Dark shadows stalk her past but a new evil threatens her future. Sky must face the dark even if it means losing her heart.

The Review :
Really difficult to say if it is 9/10 or 10/10 as l really did love this but found the book not quite (by a tiny margin) as well written as the other books l have given 5 stars to.
This may sound very picky but the reason for me not giving it was 5 stars was in some places the actions of some characters seemed a bit unrealistic. For example Sky could say something and a character would suddenly flip whereas really a person wouldn't stand up and start screaming. The thing which l disliked about that was l find it ok if that is the characters way but it was actually that way for all characters.
My little moan over, which is a very picky one but which l found did make the different for me.
This book has one of the first best chapters l have read in a book, l actually can't imagine anyone being able to put it down after reading even the first few lines!
I loved how Joss written this book (minus the little moan above) and felt l got to know the main characters very well and quite quickly, the timing between getting to know the characters and the main bit of this story was great, just enough time to get to know them before the 'action' started.
Great book and worth a read if you want a little break from Vampires etc but still want a paranormal book!

My Review:
This one for me is the best out of the 4 books in this series so far and l can't wait to read the next one!
Now that l feel like l know the main characters it could of easily been boring and predictable but instead this book was the opposite, yes it had the main story line as the previous one but this book also had lots of other very gripping story lines also which l felt that the previous two had missed.

In places l felt it lacked the building up to that 'scene' and felt because of that some scenes didn't live up to what they could of with the suspension which l had felt in other scenes. Although l felt some scenes weren't as good as they could of been l did find with this book it didn't drag on in any places like the previous 3 did in some places, instead Alyson fast forwarded.

Enjoyed this book, definitely worth a read!
