Three Books I Can’t Wait to See on Shelves in 2011

Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey
I read this book as an advance manuscript and I couldn’t put it down. The story, the characters, and the writing completely swept me up. I was particularly impressed by the way Amy Garvey handled grief. The main tragedy occurs off the page, before the beginning of the book, so from the moment the reader enters the story, it is infused with an aching absence. This might sound depressing, but it actually makes a soaringly beautiful read. It’s truly unique story about how we come to terms with loss, and the growth that happens when we’re least expecting it.

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini:
Another book I got to read an advance copy of. This book was all the things I love: fast-paced, effortlessly romantic, with vivid, funny characters I hadn’t seen before. Helen is a wonderful protagonist and I really liked how infused the story was with Greek Mythology. I will definitely be waiting to read the rest of the books in the series!

Liesl and Po by Lauren Oliver:
I haven’t read this one yet but I’ve been a fan of Lauren’s since her first novel, Before I Fall. She’s a gorgeous storyteller—funny and poignant in the same breath—and her books are always lush and imaginative. I love ghost stories and I love middle grade books so I can’t wait to see what Lauren does with this new world.

Lauren, you are most definitely so lucky to get copies of the books you do! I also loved Starcrossed but haven't yet read the other two but can't wait too! Especially Liesl and Po!
