What are the positive of giveaways?
Finding new blogs
Probably around 80% of the blogs I follow and try to comment on as much as possible are blogs which I have found through giveaways.
Because I often blog hop through the blogs I follow I am quite picky about the ones I follow. Giveaways are a great way to find new bloggers. Fact! ;)

Danielle said - I have found a lot of great new blogs to follow through giveaways and blog hops.

Brigit said - But even more so I found quite a lot of great blogs through giveaways!

Free Books
Well no one can deny that this isn't the biggest positive about giveaways. Winning feels great!
Kate said - Free books for people who are short on money

Theresa - Freebies!  Sometimes a giveaway is the only way I can get my hands on that new book I can't wait to read.

Arielle said - If you win, you get to read something new! For free! Either something you know you'll love and has been on your wishlist, or something different that'll open you up to a new genre you could potentially love!

New Followers
Yiota said - It brings new people to the blog.

Jules said - They are great at increasing your following

Kate - A good way to get new followers on your blog

Tiffany said - New followers! Most blog followers find new blogs through tweets or other blog posts about your giveaways. That is how I find all the blogs I follow. It can really help you build a loyal fan base.

Mary said - I have found new blogs & authors as a result.

Donna said - It gets the word around about your blog...especially when your new to the blogging world. And it also brings in a lot of traffic and active followers.

Small Review said - From the host's side of things, you can get new followers and advertise your blog to a wider audience.

Promoting Books
To be honest I haven't ever thought of it this way before but it's most definitely very true. When you put a book up for giveaway there will probably be a few people who haven't heard of it and will buy it if they don't win. Even adding it to their TBR shows it has definitely promoted it.

Jules said - A good way to really promote the books that you love.

Carol said - Exposure for the book

Most importantly
After reading Laura's comment on blog hops and giveaways I really thought this would be a bit of good advice to mention :
Laura said - You get blogger traffic, new followers, some more attention. It's a chance to get your blog noticed and 'out there'. What you do after the giveaways over is important too though!
That is more than true! People CAN unfollow you know!!

Anything Else?
Birgit said - Something that annoys me more often than not about giveaways is when one ends on a certain day and then weeks go by without any winners announcements (despite the fact that the blogger is posting on a daily basis). Ever wondered why you need to do a redraw because a winner didn't get back to you? Sometimes you're the one to blame and not the poor soul you picked and doesn't answer. People go on vacation or have other reasons for not always being online.
.
Eva said - I think requesting is a GFC is perfectly reasonable
.
Nat said - Blog hops are great but again most are US only
.
Blog hops take a lot of time
Lieder said - I think blog hops are fun, though a little time consuming.

Donna said - Entering 100 different ones (Blog hops) can get a bit tired some so I limit myself to say 10 blogs

Laura said - I like blog hops as a way of finding new blogs. Sometimes I don't participate though because I don't have enough time to commit to visiting so many.

Vivien said - Blog hops are fun, but really tedious when there's over 300 to go through. Also, when those are follower only. It already takes a lot of effort to go through all of them.

Thank you!

  1. Great post. I have to say that I don't mind US only giveaways, but for God sake, please, state it on top of the post or in the header. Especially if it's through rafflecopter, which doesn't show up in google reader. I haven't participated as much in Supernatural Smackdown this time, because they are like 2-4 posts per day and you don't see if you can enter straight away, have to scroll through the whole post and wait for rafflecopter to load. It's just frustrating :)
