Discussion Post - Forgetting!

I really haven't done a discussion before so l thought l would do one today after finding myself keep coming to the same problem, forgetting!
Probably the first thing l should say is that l love reading a series. It means 'spending more time' with characters which l have loved and following them on adventures. Although l do find reading a series has one down fall, and this tend to be the case even with books l have LOVED, minus one or two. I forget the ending!!
I can't even blame it on old age.
E.g. Today l read a review on Unearthly at Once Upon a Quote and seen someone saying about the ending. I found myself thinking, how does this book end again? Then after thinking for a while some of the ending comes back to me, not all. I then think, l LOVED this book and will be reading the next in the series but does that mean l need to reread the ending of Unearthly? and how? l don't have a copy and even if l did l would of passed it on by now!
I am actually considering writing down how stories end that l know will have a sequel, if l round up the ending myself in a word document l can reread it quickly.
Saying that, l then won't be testing my memory. l mean l am only 18!! Should l already be writing these things down?
Anyone have any tips?
Find themselves with the same problem?

  1. LOL Jodie :) I would actually love to have that problem! I very, VERY rarely re-read books because the element of surprise is no longer there. If I could forget how they ended, I could enjoy re-reading them! *hugs*

  2. I feel you, girl!
Side note: With some books I seem to forget EVERYTHING which doesn't exactlly speak for the quality of the book if you ask me.

  3. Theresa - Lol! Well your lucky you don't
l never re read books either it's just when l come to reading the next in the series l can never remember but if l did re read the first book things always come back but the ending is what l mostly forget!
    Thanks for reading Theresa! *hugs*

Birgit - l do agree!! If l forget all of it then l know l haven't enjoyed it that much. The books which l love l always remember the characters etc its just the ending! (most important part if your reading the next in the series lol.
    Thanks for commenting both =)

  4. I have this problem with series all the time! Not just forgetting the ending, but forgetting all the little details and events that happen throughout the book. This is really frustrating, especially when a minor event from book one becomes something really important in book two or three. I love it when authors do that, but my memory isn't usually good enough for it!

I've start to, or at least tried to start to, write plot summaries for books in a series if the series hasn't all been published. Hopefully then I'll be able to go back and ready my summary instead of having to reread the book.

  5. Oh yes. That's definitely me. I just read Crescendo and the first bit didn't make much sense because I couldn't or the life of me remember how Hush Hush finished. And I couldnt reread as Hush Hush was a library book. I think it is age with me though lol.

I really don't think I could be bothered writing all the endings down though. I have Ghost Town to read by Rachel Caine and I can't remember the name of the previous book never mind the ending!

  6. I don't typically forget the ending of books; I tend to forget what happened in the middle! Or, more recently, I've forgotten which books I've read in a series! I started reading the Artemis Fowl series a few years ago, and I completely forgot which books I owned of the series and which books of the series I had read!

Jotting down notes about the ending sounds like a good idea. Another thing to consider is hopping on over to Wikipedia. You can refresh your memory by reading the plot there.

  7. @ Small review - l often forget the things in the middle! My latest problem is with the Stargazer series. l haven't ever forgot a book as much as l have with Stargazer! It's not that l didn't enjoy it! l think it was read in a rush too much. But l read a few spoilers and remembered.
l think l will do that from now on!

@Karen - Oh you definitely won't forget the ending of Crescendo ;) That is one l DO remember!!
LOL! Bless you, GR is good for looking at spoiler reviews.

Jackie - Oh no! l think l would forget if l kept all the books. When l have finished a book l usually pass it on by some form so would know which one l was on because of that.
Oh l didn't think of Wiki! Thank you.

Thanks so much for commenting. l wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in this post!

  8. A very interesting post, indeed. I don't seem to have a problem reading a single book and remembering it later. Where I begin to see the problem is when I have multiple cliffhangers and series books to remember. Plus, add in some second books won't even be released for a year, then yep, I begin to be quite challenged at remembering.

What I'm thinking of doing is keeping a reading journal of sorts to jot down a few notes which will job my memory once the sequal comes out. My Kindle also has a way to add annotations, too.
