 .................................... The Blurb  ....................................
The only hope for humanity isn’t human.
In a world where people have been all but wiped out by a virus created by part-human cyborgs called ‘Partials’, and where no baby survives longer than three days, a teenage girl makes it her mission to find a cure, and save her best friend’s unborn child.
But finding a cure means capturing a Partial…

 .................................... My Thoughts   ....................................
In Short
- I was close to putting Partials down but thankfully carry on through the slower paced chapters.
- Partials goes into so much details, sometimes too much.
- Dan has created a world so different from ours which felt so real.
- The males in Partials are all swoon worthy.

In Long
I will start this review by saying Partials is proof that you should never review a book unless you have read it ALL, you definitely can’t judge a book until you have finished it.  The reason I say this is because I was very close to putting Partials down, I still felt some of these things right until the end, how the storyline grew was more than enough to keep me reading it though!
Let’s start with the negatives to get it out the way. Partials is definitely challenging, it goes into so much detail about so many different things and a lot to do with science, I often found myself confused because there is so much to take in. I found myself panicking because I couldn’t understand what was happening, luckily though you aren’t expected to understand everything and it this doesn’t ruin the book at all because things slowly become more clearer. I am not saying that things being described in detail is a bad thing, it shows the author has thought about everything in great detail, it was more that I felt the amount of the detail was too much and I found myself becoming a bit bored. Another thing for me was the names, all very unique I often forgot who was who when it came down to the soldiers etc.

Putting the two negative things to the side, I loved Partials, that shows because I gave it 4 stars. Dan has created a new world from the one we know and I could quickly see that Dan had really thought about this world to such detail that it made it feel very real for me. I was able to become engrossed in Kira’s world, feel all the different characters feelings and imagine the world for myself.

The characters are all strong and I warmed to them all. The males in the book are most definitely swoon worthy but in their own ways. They all had strengths and weaknesses which added to the storyline as they reacted differently in the different situations. As the storyline became more intense I enjoyed seeing how each character were able to deal with that situation, whether they could trust the people around them and how loyal they were. The few twists in the book were twists I didn’t see coming at all.

Final Thoughts
Partials is a great book with a storyline that grows as you get further into the book, I couldn’t put it down to the end, desperate to see what was going to happen next.

Cover Crazy #73

Hosted by The Book Worms
Love is All You Need - Deb Caletti
I love Deb's books, I have read a few and she is a great writer. I am always looking out for new books by her and when I saw this cover I fell in love with it. I know I will love it but I want it just for the cover even if I don't like it!
I love this cover because :
- I love black and white pictures, I think the red umbrella with the black and white picture is AWESOME!
- It's a cute picture which shows you that the book is a romance one.
- I love how love is the word which definitely stands out on this cover. It's quite a long title so it was a great idea to put the rest in the O of love!
- Simple but very cute cover which has definitely used editing to it's advantage.

Keeping SecretsKeeping Secrets - Alyson Noel
I would so pick this book up now! It just gives off this vibe which says 'Read Me, Read Me!' I love it!
I love/like this cover because :
- I love the whole easy feel of the cover. It definitely advertises the books as a YA/chick-lit (which they are!)
- This cover has quite a bit of writing on it but it's all spaced out quite well and looks good.
-I really like the font of the 'keeping' and the colour of the title.
- I like the background and that it's blurred, still gives off the feel of summer but focuses on the girl.
- I love flowers, even daisy's in pictures, I think it's a lovely picture!

Man With a Past (Going Back) (Harlequin Superromance #1347)Man With a Past - Kay Stockham
I actually totally forgotten I even had this book, which is terrible and so bad of me! I brought it when I was going through a phase of buying lots of books from charity shops, I quickly brought way more than I was reading and this one is one of many which haven't been touched since.

Anyway while writing this post I am wondering to myself why haven't I read this yet?! It actually sounds really good and has quite good ratings on goodreads. I am in the mood for this sort of book lately so I am pretty sure that I will be reading this in the next few months, around 3 years after buying it!

The Blurb
WILL THE TRUTH SET HIM FREE?
JOE BRODY: Out of prison but still serving time --- all because no one in his hometown believes he's innocent. He'd leave the place in his dust, but his father --- the only family he has left --- needs him.

Joe and Ashley. The attraction between them is powerful. But is it enough to overcome the whispers that Ashley has begun to hear?

Guest Post + Giveaway - Young (or) Adult by Kevin Harkness

City of Demons
Thank you Kevin for a great guest post. I feel you pointed out a number of issues that YA readers (Including myself) come across, the main problem is some peoples beliefs that YA isn't 'real' literature. I think you have underlined the truth in that case =)

Young (or) Adult? By Kevin Harkness
Did I just write a Young Adult novel? I know I didn’t start out thinking, “must write YAaaaaa,” while typing zombie-like on my keyboard. As a teacher of Grade Eights to Twelves, I might have been inclined to write in that genre, rather than attempt, say, the great Canadian literary novel, but I don’t think it was a conscious choice. So did I?

Maybe I’d better check. Let’s see, somebody somewhere sometime said that YA novels only need a young protagonist to fit into the genre. My protagonist is a teenager, so check. YA might also demand young adult themes such as fitting in with your peers, romantic relationships, and separating from figures of authority. Check, check, check, though to be fair, these themes show up in adult fiction too. Finally, YA is often seen as possessing less gravitas and significance than “real” literature.

Now hold on a minute. It would be self-serving to claim gravitas and significance for my own novel, but I can claim it for YA as a genre. How about that YA novel I taught to Grade Tens for many years, To Kill a Mockingbird? That has more gravitas than a small planet or a large politician. Significance? Try A Wizard of Eathsea or The Hunger Games. And if you want to point out some fluff on the YA shelves, well just sidle over to the adult section and see the dross beside the gold.

I think I’d like to rearrange the shelves. Let’s drop YA versus Literature for a more informative division: Hopeful versus Despairing.

I’m not as well-read in the genre-formerly-known-as-YA as some of you, maybe most of you, but it seems to me that hope is the great division. No matter how many dystopian landscapes the young protagonist endures, there is always a gleam of hope: the rumoured sanctuary, the stalwart companion, or even the twinge of conscience in a villain. We writers are cruel, but we are not so horrible as to remove all hope from our children. Unless, of course, you are writing literature. Then you can go all Thomas Hardy on your protagonists and squish them like bugs – after destroying all their dreams. Even the most horrific YA novel wouldn’t sink that low. Don’t believe me? Then think about this: how is Katniss Everdeen (of the Hunger Games) treated more gently than Tess (of the d’Urbervilles)? No spoilers; you can read and find out, but I officially rest my case.

So, yes. If I can’t re-categorize the genres, I’ll take YA, proudly. It’s the crowd I want to hang out with. Long live hope.

Bio

Kevin Harkness is a Vancouver writer who has just finished a third career as a high-school teacher. His first two careers: industrial 911 operator and late-blooming university student, were nowhere near as dangerous and exciting as teaching Grade 10s the mysteries of grammar and the joys of To Kill a Mockingbird. He also taught Mandarin Chinese – but that’s another story. Outside of family and friends, he has three passions: a guitar he can’t really play, martial arts of any kind from karate to fencing, and reading really good stories. In this fourth career, as a writer, he attempts young adult fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

How cute is this cover? This is enough to make me want to read the book before even reading the blurb! Haha just what I am in the mood for lately. I love books which are from both point of views and this book is! I am so excited to read it, every book I have read where they alternate between the two characters works so well. Oh and also this book is about a couple on the run and they basically go on a road trip - I love road trip books!
The more I type the more desperate I am to read this!

 .................................... The Blurb  ....................................
Fifteen-year-old Demi's world is shattered when she is left profoundly deaf by a sudden illness. Everything is different now, and Demi must learn to adapt to a new school, new friends and even learn a whole new language.

Whisper is a coming-of-age tale, about discovering who you are and where you fit in life. About friendships and first love and, most of all, learning to love the person you are.
.
 .................................... My Thoughts   ....................................
In Short
- Whisper is a special book which makes you see the world from a different point of view.
- I liked that there was only one main character.
- Throughout the book there is little magical and such meaningful sentences.
- This book is such an eye opener.

In Long
Whisper is one of those special books, a book which takes the real world and makes you see it from a different point of view. I love paranormal books, don’t get me wrong, I read them all the time but I believe books are harder to write when written in the real world. Chrissie has had to really think and explore so many different paths and I admire her for doing so. For example, how do you get the attention of a class of children who are all deaf? It’s a real eye opener, I found myself really admiring the people in the world (more than I already did) who are unable to hear or see. I can’t imagine it myself and feel very lucky to both be able to see and hear myself.
I will admit, a 1/3 of the way through the book I couldn't find myself getting into the book, I loved that Chrissie was making the book a real meaningful one but I felt the storyline was lacking a little. The thing which kept me reading was all the little magical and very meaningful sentences throughout the book which really made me think. Luckily things picked up anyway and I found myself totally engrossed in Demi’s story and seeing how she was going to cope with it all.
Demi is a strong character who I enjoyed getting to know. I think her reaction to what had happened to her was real. I can see it being a huge struggle so I was kind of glad Chrissie made it feel very real by showing that Demi wasn’t ok and she was struggling to accept that she was unable to hear. It was the way she dealt with it that made me admire her character though. The other characters all played their part but I was grateful that there was only one main character, it definitely suited this sort of storyline.

Final Thoughts
Whisper has a strong message behind it, one which everyone needs to take notice of to help the people in our world who are less fortunate than us. Chrissie has enabled me to see into almost a different world while I was reading Whisper and it will stay with me forever.

Cover Crazy #72

Hosted by The Book Worms
Dead Silence - Kimberly Derting
I have loved pretty all of The Body Finder series. I am gutted I don't have room on my shelf to keep them all because their covers are so pretty and they all go well together which I love, they would look beautiful on a bookshelf.
I love this cover because :
- That all the covers in the series go well and have different covers.
- That the title is over the centre of the flower so it doesn't ruin the rest of it.
- I like the red against the black as it draws your attention to it more.
- That it says under the title that this book is part of the series. I hate it when books don't inform you of that!
- I like the lighting behind it.

Revel - Maurissa Guibord
This cover kind of messes with my mind, it's strange but at the same time it's pretty and definitely stands out. I don't LOVE it but I do like it!
I love/like this cover because :
- I love the white with the blue! They go so well together.
- Really makes me want to read the blurb to this book to find out about the girl more.
-Her dress looks almost like wind or sand which is being blown around, such clever editing.
Dislike :
-I think the font of the title could be much more prettier and go with the whole effect a bit more.
- I can't see the authors name that great, although I like the idea of it being a sandy colour.

Twenties GirlTwenties Girl - Sophie Kinsella
I really love Sophie's shopaholic series and went through a phase where I was totally obsessed with them. My boyfriend then brought 3 of her other books for my birthday, I did plan to read them straight away! Sadly this one is still standing on my shelf 2 years later (much to my boyfriends annoyance).

This isn't a genre I read that much off anyone, it used to be my main genre. I am hoping to read this soon and I jut hope I love it as much as I loved her other books. If I do love it then it might make me want to read more of her books (I haven't yet read Mini shopaholic!)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Dualed (Dualed, #1)Dualed - Elise Chapman
Published : 30th April 2013
Publisher : Simon Pulse
Seriously? How can authors keep coming up with such amazing storylines? I absolutely love the idea of this book. Having a twin which you must either kill or be killed by? It sounds so damn good! Can definitely seeing myself loving this book, as long as it's keeps the reader in suspense throughout the book with the whole 'Will She, Won't She?'
Elise is a debut author which makes this book even more exciting, the second one has already been named as Divided.
-
The Blurb :
You or your Alt? Only one will survive.
"Dualed" is a thrilling high-concept YA where citizens must prove their worth by killing their Alts--twins raised by other families.

Cover Crazy #71

Hosted by The Book Worms
Silver - Talia Vance
This is one of those covers which is just so beautiful that I have to keep looking at it and the closer I look the more I see.
I love this cover because :
- Really like the 'planet?' in the sky, I am guessing that's what she is looking at and it makes me wonder what the story is about.
- Love the colour used, purple, and how everything has a tint of purple.
- The sky is gorgeous, along with the scene it makes for a pretty cover.
- I like that it's just the title and authors name in this cover which means the picture can take 'front seat'.
- I like how it's all dark and mysterious, makes me want to read the blurb even more.

The Treachery of Beautiful Things - Ruth Long
I have really mixed feelings about this cover.
I love this cover because :
- Very pretty cover but pretty in a different way from other covers I have been posting as it's so edited.
- Really like all the trees in the background with the sun coming through.
-The flowers along with the trees are my favourite things about this cover, very pretty.
Dislike :
-I have to admit I think this is edited a bit too much, the girl looks really fake and photo edited. She's more like a computer character, just really dislike it.
- I wish the flowers were a bit brighter.

.................................... My Thoughs  ....................................
In Short
- This is my first but hopefully not my last dragon book.
- I loved how the dragons were part of a modern day setting.
-I really like the mystery between the two main characters, never knowing what was going to happen.
-I love Jacinda, her character is strong and actually thinks about what she is going to do.
.
In Long
Firelight was one of my review books which I got excited to read because it’s the kind of book which throws me into the deep end with regards to reading a dragon book. I haven’t yet read a book with dragons in and to be honest never believed I would because I have always thought I wouldn’t be able to get into a book with dragons in as I wouldn’t be able to believe what was happening.
Right from the beginning the action starts. The dragon side of things is introduced into the book and I actually found myself very intrigued by it. It’s such a unique ‘theme’ and throughout the book I looked forward to more information about the dragons. I think maybe I was able to be dragged into liking the whole dragon thing because the dragons are in just a normal modern day setting in this book. It made it effortless for me to believe.
Jacinda is a character who I automatically liked, she is strong willed but also not stupid and won’t go and do really silly things for no reason. The mystery between her and Will is amazing, I loved it! Every time they saw each other I never knew what would happen or where there relationship would go and I loved the suspense.

Final Thoughts
Firelight is a great book, Sophie kept my attention pretty much throughout the whole book and it’s not one of those books which is easy to put down!

A book blog featuring Romance, Dark Romance and New Adult
