The Blurb
Since the beginning of mankind, civilizations have fallen: the Romans, the Greeks, the Aztecs...and now us. Huge earthquakes rock the world. Cities are destroyed. But something even more awful is happening: An ancient evil has been unleashed, and it's turning everyday people into hunters, killers, and crazies. This is the world Mason, Aries, Clementine, and Michael are living in--or rather, trying to survive. Each is fleeing unspeakable horror, from murderous chaos to brutal natural disasters, and each is traveling the same road in a world gone mad. Amid the throes of the apocalypse and clinging to love and meaning wherever it can be found, these four teens are on a journey into the heart of darkness--and to find each other and a place of safety.

Just One Day (Just One Day, #1)Just One Day - Gayle Forman
Published : 8th January 2013
Publisher : Dutton Juvenile
I love Gayle, she is such an amazing author and I have been so looking forward to her next book! I didn't even need to read the blurb to know that I want to read this one and that I am waiting on it. I am sure it's going to be awesome.
I have to admit that the blurb does make it sound that exciting but I am sure Gayle has made this book an emotional roller coaster road, or I am hoping at least!
Make sure to check this one out, looking forward to reviews!

The Blurb :
When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance ofTwelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines.

 .................................... The Blurb  ....................................
Fresh from defending her pack in battle, Natalya Stravinsky, a whip-smart werewolf with a lovable neurotic streak, wants a little rest and relaxation. Once an outcast, she’s now eager to rejoin the ranks of her New Jersey pack, and has even gotten a handle on her obsessive urge to hoard holiday ornaments. Yet Nat barely has time to revel in her progress before the next crisis comes howling at her door.

Nat’s father has suddenly gone missing, captured by the Russian werewolf mafia. And as Nat steps up to save her dad from a mob boss’s deadly game, two men step in to play another round for her heart: her gorgeous alpha ex-boyfriend, Thorn, and her new flame, the sweetly sensitive wizard Nick. With her life growing more harried by the minute, Nat must stay cool, calm, and collected . . . or else risk losing everything.

 .................................... My Thoughts   ....................................
In Short
- Kept follows on nicely from Coveted (The first in the series)
- All the characters grew in Kept
- Thorn is just ... <3
- Kept is such a unique paranormal book, you don't want to miss out!

In Long
Kept follows on nicely from the first book in the series, Coveted. However I found myself getting into Kept much quicker than Coveted. Everything seemed to move more quickly in Kept, the storyline constantly has something going on

All the characters grew in Kept which I really liked. I always think characters should never stop growing and Shawntelle made sure her characters continued to grow. I became even fonder of Nat in this book, she is such a strong character who deals with everything in the way she sees best, often putting herself last. Her character is such a realistic one because she does have her flaws but at the same time there is such much to like about her.

Thorn is so swoon worthy, he really keeps me guessing as to what his thinking which I love about male characters. His all mysterious and then he will suddenly open up but at the same time hold back from revealing everything. It definitely kept me guessing throughout the whole book. One moment I thought something then his next actions would make me think something different. It was like it’s own little storyline within itself.

Kept is such a different sort of paranormal book, I love how werewolves are the main paranormal creatures but there are also wizards, mermaids and many other paranormal creatures involved. It’s so interesting to see them altogether and how Shawntelle puts them into the storyline in a way which could make the storyline go in many different directions.

The ending is a great one, so much is still going on right up until the last sentence!! I could never predict the exact ending, although I thought it might end in a certain way I was never totally sure and I was definitely ‘on the edge of my seat’ throughout the book, especially the last 50 pages.

Final Thoughts
Kept is a great follow on from Coveted. I actually enjoyed Kept a bit more than Coveted which was a nice surprise because I didn't think I would after enjoying Coveted so much. I really recommend this series!!

Guest Post - Deleted Scene from Zombie's Don't Cry + UK Giveaway

Please welcome Rusty to Books For Company. He has been very kind and provided us with a great deleted scene from Zombie's Don't Cry, an exclusive!
This has definitely made me put the book onto my wishlist. So much character comes through within this one scene!

Don’t Forget the Dew!
A “Deleted Scene” from Zombies Don’t Cry

Zombies Don't Cry
By Rusty Fischer, author of Zombies Don’t Cry

So, I always love writing these “deleted scenes” from Zombies Don’t Cry. It’s been a few years since I wrote it, and it’s always neat to go back and try to sneak something new in with these scenes “from the cutting room floor”.
So, in honor of the book’s UK release in October, here is a scene that happens just before the book’s Prologue, while Maddy, the book’s main character, is doing a little last minute shopping before here “Zombie Picnic.”
I’m pretty excited about this deleted scene, and very grateful to Jodie for allowing me to debut it here, and only here, on the Books for Company blog. At any rate, I hope you enjoy it:

.
I shut the passenger door and Dane leans over, hands bone white and clutching the steering wheel. “You’ve got the list?” he asks, gooey black zombie blood -- though it’s not really blood -- smeared on his chin.
“Yes, I have the list!” Sheesh, he’s only asked me a dozen times since we pulled away from the dance.
“Okay, just checking.” He seems antsy, and I guess I can’t blame him. I take one step away from the truck and he pokes his head out one last time: “Don’t forget the Dew! It’s really important he has a little refreshment, you know, for when he wakes up.”
I look down at the list, scribbled onto the back of my Fall Formal invitation. “Yeah, it’s on here, I got it…”
I’m still grumbling when I walk into the Stop ‘N Go store on Lumpfish Lane. It’s not exactly a 7-11, if you know what I mean, which Dane thought would be best considering the fact that we’re now, officially, on the run.
An electronic “ding-dong-ding” chimes when I walk in and a sleepy cashier, a few years older than me, looks up from some magazine he’s reading on the sales counter.
He starts to nod. You can tell it’s something automatic he does every time he looks up to see somebody new, but about mid-nod he stops and his eyes get big. Like, real big; like, cartoon as big as saucers big.
“Uh… hi,” he mumbles, watching me grab a metal basket from a stack by the door.
“Hi yourself.” I don’t even know why I say it. It’s so stupid and corny, but it just blurts out, dry and husky in my new zombie voice.
I can tell he thinks it’s clownish, too, but he still watches me, eyes big with a capital “B,” as I shuffle around the store tossing items in my basket. You know, all the zombie reanimation essentials, like… plastic knives and forks, some plastic plates and paper napkins and, from the hardware section, a small hatchet, just in case.
I grab the Mountain Dew last, two six packs even though Dane said one would be plenty, but I’m thirsty and I know he will be, too. They’re cold in my hands, but not much colder than my skin.
I shuffle over to the counter and unload it all on top of the guy’s muscle car magazine. He frowns but, so what? His fault for not moving it faster. I mean, if he hadn’t been gawking at me the whole way over to the cash register, he could have moved it in plenty of time.
“Are you… okay?” he asks, not even trying to ring any of my stuff up yet. I shift my eyes to the left and see Dane’s face, white as a volleyball above the steering wheel, dark eyes glaring at me to hurry up from the parking lot.
“Who, me?” Another stupid croak out of my stupid mouth. Why am I suddenly talking like some stupid commercial for Match.com?
He smirks. He’s tall and thin, with red hair cropped short and a Star Wars shirt (of course it’s a Star Wars shirt), under his green and red Stop ‘N Go cashier apron.
He’s still not moving. “Why do you ask?”
“Why? Have you… have you seen yourself lately?”
I gasp, and suddenly, it all makes sense; his round eyes, his gaping jaw, his inability to move or ring up a single can of Mountain Dew.
I. Must. Look. Like. Complete. Ass!
I look down to see my torn prom dress, thick Zerker goo under my maroon nail polish, left pinky WAY out of joint and God, I can only imagine what my hair looks like!
Is he looking? At my hair? Oh God, he is. He is absolutely STARING at my hair! It must be flatter than one of Dad’s pancakes those rare Sunday mornings when he gets home early enough to fix me breakfast.
“I… well… I…” I have nothing to say. What should I say? That I’ve been so busy trying to save Barracuda Bay High School from a zombie infestation that I just didn’t have time to freshen up before running out for a little Mountain Dew?
“Let me guess,” he says, leaning in and throwing a thumb over his shoulder in the general direction of Dane’s truck parked outside. “You and your boyfriend out there got in a little tussle and now you’re gonna whip him up something fancy to make up for it, am I right?”
The little TV on top of the rotating pretzel stand behind him flickers and a newscaster breaks into his mud wrestling program. The volume’s on low but with my new zombie hearing, the newscaster might as well be shouting as he says, “We interrupt the previously scheduled broadcast to bring you this special announcement. Reports are starting to filter in of a potential situation at tonight’s Fall Formal at one local high school, where for the last hour parents have been unable to reach their...”
I look down at the sales counter, frantic. Paper plates, a hatchet and soda pop? That’s this guy’s idea of a romantic makeup dinner?
“Yes, yes, absolutely. You must be psychic or something.” He smiles unironically, despite the irony dripping in my admittedly harsh voice.
He finally starts reaching for things, covering up the sound of the newscast with the ringing of the cash register and thank goodness the TV is behind him as they start showing photos of Barracuda Bay High, smoldering in the night.
I told Dane we should have waited until the funeral to grab this stuff, but he said we’d have to lay low for the next day or so and couldn’t chance it. Now, here I am, in my prom dress torn to shreds, strolling through the Stop ‘N Go like something straight out of a… a… zombie movie.
He rings up the soda, finally, and shoves everything in a big red and green bag, smiling. “Funny,” he says, leaving it out there, dangling, so I have to ask, “What is?”
“I drink this stuff when I have the flu, too.”
Then he looks at my face, pale and gray like wet cement, and smiles. I pay him with a rolled up twenty from my pretty clam shell prom purse and storm out the door, wondering how long it will be before they start showing my high school yearbook photo on the news and he thinks, “Hey, wasn’t that chick just in my store?!?!”

So there you have it, a scene that never made it into the book and that you can only find here, on the Books for Company blog!

Thanks, Jodie, for hosting me and thanks to all of you for reading this. And I hope it will add to your enjoyment of the book if you ever get to read Zombies Don’t Cry!

Yours in YA,

Guest Post - Faith Mckay on Becoming a Strong Female Character

Please welcome Faith McKay to Books for Company. Faith is a debut author of Prophecy Girl.
Faith has written a great guest post for us, one which had me thinking about a subject I haven't thought that deep into but this post has made me explore my opinions.

Becoming a Strong Female Character by Faith Mckay
What does it mean to be strong? What does it mean to be weak? This is a big theme in my novel, Prophecy Girl.
I read a lot of book reviews that debate the strength of female characters in particular. A lot of people are sick of weak female characters. I get stuck on this when reading because I can relate to the characters who gets walked on, but I would also like to see more examples of strength. The thing is, though, while I admire them and wish I was them, I'm not as cool as those kick butt heroines who seem to just be strong and confident. I mean, Hermione Granger? Oh my god, she kicks so much butt! I really related to her with her big hair and love of books, and constantly wished I was as cool and strong as her. When in doubt, ask yourself, What Would Hermione Do? The answer is always: something smart and strong and awesome. She gave me something to strive to be, and that is so valuable.

In Prophecy Girl, Sam is a little bit different. Sam starts out in Prophecy Girl a victim. She's a victim of child abuse, she's a victim of bullying, and she definitely feels it's all her fault.
I worry a lot that people will read her thoughts on what's happening to her, and think that I am saying it's her fault. What is happening to her is not her fault. Of course it's not her fault! If someone is bullying you, if someone is abusing you, that's on them—not you.
But Sam doesn't do anything about her situation. The lesson she has learned, from years of abuse, is that she needs to just survive. If people are spitting on you? You make yourself small and wait for it to end.
Slowly, throughout Prophecy Girl, we watch Sam learn to stand up.
While writing Prophecy Girl, and watching the things Sam did, it gave me a lot to think about in terms of how we learn to become strong people, strong characters. Sam can't stand up for herself with her mother—but whenever her mother makes any kind of move toward her little sister, Sam stands up. It's easier to be strong defending other people than ourselves—and I think this is because Sam doesn't feel like she's worth much, but she knows her little sister is worth stepping in for.
We see Sam stand up for her sister, and we also see Sam stand up in anger. And while these things are examples of strength in the moment, it made me wonder what ends up driving us to be stronger characters overall? What drives us to stand up and be amazing kick butt heroines?
I think the answer is in feeling like we're worth doing that for. In knowing that we don't deserve to be spit on, in knowing that we deserve respect, that we are worth the strength it takes to stand up for ourselves.
When you grow up in an environment that doesn't breed that into you, you have to somehow find that in yourself. And that is what Sam's story arc is all about in Prophecy Girl. What will it take for her to stand up? What will it take for her to be strong? What will it take for her to make the leap from victim to survivor?
There isn't a simple answer to this, of course. If there was, we'd all be kick butt heroines like Hermione Granger. There are over 90,000 words exploring the idea in Prophecy Girl, and I still have more thoughts on the subject. For example now, being strong versus just feeling strong? That's a subject for another book. Or two. :)

Cover Crazy #78

Is there someone else who hosts a Cover Crazy on a Monday?
How My Summer Went Up in Flames
How My Summer Went Up In Flames - Jennifer Doktorski
I have to admit I am not usually a big fan of covers which have the title all over the front cover and I don't necessarily love that about this cover but I actually think it suits the cover quite well.
I love this cover because :
- I like the font for the title, it's like a fun font which goes well with the 'theme' of the cover (summer and girly)
- The picture itself is one which I love. I don't know why but the little things like her spotty colourful top and the car, it makes the book seem like a really fun sort of book.
- Well it makes me think summer!
Dislike :
- I am still unsure about the title, I would love to see the title made smaller and put at the bottom and see what the cover looks like then.

Ask The PassengersAsk the Passengers - A.S King
This cover is quite unique. I know it has a girl and the sun and that's not that unique but I like how she has her hand over the sun/light. It's actually intrigues me quite a bit about the book!
I love/like this cover because :
- I like the simple picture but that it draws my attention.
- I like that there are only a few different colours used, it gives the cover a nice feel.
Dislike
- Even though it draws my attention i don't know if it keeps my attention!
- The title seems to be almost in the way of the cover. It would be better at the top right maybe?
-I don't know, I like it but at the same time don't.

Every Thursday l am going to list a book which l really want to read/keep meaning to get to. These are mostly books which have been on my shelf for awhile now but don't have to be, maybe you got it two weeks ago and really want to read it!

This has such a short blurb but I think it sounds awesome!
I did a swap for it and it's quite short, it must be under 250 pages so I wanted to start it after my current book. Then I got a tour book which I needed to read so I gave this to my sister to read but she couldn't get into it. When someone cant get into a book it always put me off it a little, even though I may love it I can't help but be effected a little and not as excited to read it.
Any way since then it's sat on my shelf behind a few other books and I just haven't got to it. Hopefully one day I will! When i fancy a quick read maybe =)

The Blurb
They promised Meredith nine years of safety, but only gave her three. Her father was supposed to be locked up until Meredith turned eighteen. She thought she had time to grow up, get out, and start a new life. But Meredith is only fifteen, and today her father is coming home from prison.
Today her time has run out.

Waiting on Wednesday #77

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

UndercurrentUndercurrent - Paul Blackwell
Published : 23rd July 2013
Publisher : HarperTeen.
I love books like this! Where someone has woke up to things which they don't understand. I tend to get very gripped to books like this and struggle to put them down. Everything is a mystery and I also feel like I am taking a personal journey with the character to figure everything out.
I hope this is the case with Undercurrent as I am confident that I will love it if this is the case. It sounds very different from other books, just hope it's as good as the blurb make it sound"
-
The Blurb :
A shadowy figure. An intense roar. The sensation of falling—fast.
That’s all Callum Harris remembers from his tumble over the waterfall. But when he wakes up in a hospital bed and finds his best friend trying to kill him, Callum knows something is seriously wrong. Unfortunately for him, the mysteries are just getting started.
Why are his parents acting like he’s some big sports star all of a sudden? And why are all the buildings in town more run-down than Callum remembers? Worst of all...what happened to Callum’s brother? Either Callum has gone seriously crazy or something happened when he went over the falls. Something impossible. Callum needs answers, and now. Because in this twisted new version of the life Callum knew, his former best friend isn’t the only one who wants to see him dead.
Filled with mind-bending suspense and unsettling thrills, Undercurrent is a grippingly paced teen debut that will pull you under and never let go.

Cover Crazy #77

Is there someone else who hosts a Cover Crazy on a Monday?
Dance of Shadows - Yelena Black
This cover is one of those which makes me go 'wow'. Although for this cover I can think of a few improvements I still love the girl and the red!
I love this cover because :
- I love how bright the red of the dress is and makes the cover stand out so much.
- I like the font and that it's read, it fits in nicely.
- The sky in the background adds to the dramatic effect that the cover gives off.
Dislike :
- The title is a bit too big for me, it takes over nearly half of the cover and ruins the effect of the girl to be honest.
- I feel like the smell writing should be either at the top or bottom, looks weird there in the middle.

Hollywood Ever After (Red Carpet, #1)Hollywood Ever After - Sasha Summers
I love this cover and it's even better in real life. I was lucky to get it for review and I think it's just beautiful! So gorgeous.
I love/like this cover because :
- Well I love the colours in this cover and the shade of it all, with a tint of pink to it.
- I love the font, really goes with the cover and makes it stand out even more.
- It's a very simple picture which has been edited beautifully but not too much.
- You can get so much from the cover, a hint towards the story line and that it's going to be a romance book.
Dislike
- There isn't anything I don't like!

Guest Post - John Barlow + Giveaway

Please welcome John Barlow to Books for Company!
I was very happy when John agreed to a guest post! I really want to read Islanders myself but due to having lack of reading time and over 400 books to read I am unable to read it YET! I hope to in the future. It sounds so good! Make sure you check it out.
Thanks John!
Giveaway towards the end.
The Perfect Group for a Quest  by John Barlow
Today my new YA novel, ISLANDERS, is published. It’s an adventure about a boy’s quest to find his father. ISLANDERS is set in a post-war landscape where germ warfare has destroyed much of the natural order, leaving a weird world of genetic mutants. There are still some humans around, but they’re not doing very well, worn down by industrial slavery and a deteriorating environment.
Enter our hero. Ben Brewer has lived all his life on an island, with his mother and a community of people who escaped the ravages of war in search of somewhere safe. Ben’s father was a war hero, but he died before Ben was born, fighting for freedom (a cause which was lost). Ben has never met him.
When a young messenger arrives on the Island saying that Ben’s father is not dead, Ben decides to go and find him. Perhaps his dad is in danger. But Ben is 13, and his dad has been gone all those years. Why did he never come back? If he is alive, why has he never in fact come home to see his own son?
Ben sets out to look for his dad, but in some ways he’s really looking for the truth about his dad. By extension he’s trying to find out the truth about the war, and why he had to grow up on a miserable island. He’s really on a quest to learn about the world in which he was born, and to find a way to make it better.
Sometimes a hero goes it alone, pitting himself against whatever challenges he might encounter. But with ISLANDERS I wanted Ben to have some company. For one thing, there’s a whole dystopian world to try and understand. It’s just too much for one person. He needs back-up, and a bunch of people with different but essential skills (fist-fighting, mathematical logic, mutant emu-riding...).
Ben himself is the unifying force, the person on whom our eyes most naturally fall. But around him I tried to assemble people with contrasting personalities. His best friend, Coby, is nervous and scared. His cowardice is important, though, because in the frightening dystopian world in which they travel, being scared is a perfectly natural reaction. Also, when Coby does show courage, it is in service of the whole group. Coby’s sister, Silver, is the brainy one. But her knowledge and intelligence are necessary; she is called upon again and again to supply the group with solutions or explanations, a means of guiding their progress. She also carries the compass and keeps track of the way they’ve come. She represents reason in a world gone mad.
Finally, the muscle. There are two twins (nicknames Bad and Worse) in the group. They are war orphans and nobody on the Island likes them, because they’re violent, rude and malicious. But as the story develops, they turn out to be tough and loyal, and good fun to have around. There’s quite a bit of violence in the book (fist fights mainly, no guns) and it’s mostly Bad and Worse who are guilty. They are immensely strong and fearless, but it’s not until they team up with the others, especially Silver and her capacity to use reason, that they really shine. Indeed, throughout the plot we see how each character comes to appreciate the particular role of the others. By the end it’s a pretty effective bunch, although they still agree about almost nothing.
Anyway, that’s ISLANDERS. I enjoyed putting the team together, and setting them all free in a strange and frightening world. I think that was the key to writing the novel: once I had the team, I could almost sit back and watch them as they made their way through the adventure. I enjoyed writing it tremendously. I hope people enjoy reading it.

So I didn't know about this book for a while and then I started to hear so many raving reviews about it I felt like I was missing out.
I have heard that Courtney is a great author and I know she is very popular, I actually have quite a few of her books on my shelf but somehow still haven't got to one by her!
I did a swap for this book and was really excited to get it, as per usual I thought I would start it straight away, that never happened! It since has sat on my shelf tempting me but somehow hasn't yet been picked up. The Time Will Come!

The Blurb
It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually wantto live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life—and death—inside. When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?

Waiting on Wednesday #76

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event hosted at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Walking Disaster (Beautiful, #2)Walking Disaster - Jamie McGuire
Published : 1st February 2013
Publisher : Dutton Juvenile
Walking Disaster is the second book in the Beautiful series and it's basically Beautiful Disaster but this time the story is told from Travis's point of view, the other main character.
This will be the first time I have read a book which is the same storyline but from another characters point of view so I am really excited to see if it grips me as much as Beautiful Disaster did. I think it will be really good though as I loved Beautiful Disaster and even more so Travis!
-
The Blurb :
Beautiful Disaster told in Travis point of view.
How much is too much to love?
Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.
In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. Just when he thought he was invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.
Every story has two sides. In Jamie McGuire's New York Times bestseller Beautiful Disaster Abby had her say. Now it's time to see the story through Travis's eyes.

 .................................... The Blurb  ....................................
Kami Glass is in love with someone she's never met - a boy the rest of the world is convinced is imaginary. This has made her an outsider in the sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale, but she doesn't complain. She runs the school newspaper and keeps to herself for the most part - until disturbing events begin to happen. There has been screaming in the woods and the dark, abandoned manor on the hill overlooking the town has lit up for the first time in 10 years. The Lynburn family, who ruled the town a generation ago and who all left without warning, have returned. As Kami starts to investigate for the paper, she finds out that the town she has loved all her life is hiding a multitude of secrets- and a murderer- and the key to it all just might be the boy in her head. The boy who everyone thought was imaginary may be real...and he may be dangerous.

 .................................... My Thoughts   ....................................
In Short
- Unspoken has a great concept behind it with a unique storyline.
- Unspoken is written in a different way from most YA books.
- Kami the main character is witty, funny, determined, caring.
- READ UNSPOKEN!

In Long
Unspoken has a great concept behind it and I was so excited about the whole idea that Kami has this person in her head who she talks to. I haven’t ever read a book like it so I was really intrigued to see what sort of relationship Brennan had created between Kami and this guy who she talks to in her head.
As soon as I started Unspoken I discovered that Brennan hasn’t just written a storyline which is very unique but she has also written it in a unique way. It’s hard to explain the sort of style that she has written this in but it’s very unique, witty and quirky. I personally can’t make my mind up about whether I like it or not and I know this will be the case for others as well as some hating and some loving it. However I think, for me, at most points it suits Unspoken, there was a few points that I got really confused and didn’t understand something because of the style and also most indirect approach to what Brennan was trying to get across but for the majority of the time it worked.
The story pretty much starts straight away and from the beginning I found myself addicted to the story, wanting to know more about this guy Kami was talking to. He had such an interesting character, one which made me want to find more out about him, especially who he was and where he was.
As things started to unravel I did find that the storyline sometimes slowed down and this was often when I would realise I had to go to sleep or something and ended up putting the book down. I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t get into to the point that I found myself picking it up at any free second I had. However when I did I found the story quickly picked back up again.
Kami is a great character, there are so many different words that can be used to describe her; witty, funny, determined, caring, funny, daring etc. She is a character with so much personality, I straight away loved her! I would love to have her as a friend, I am sure she would cheer me up whenever I am feeling down. I don’t want to give anything away about the guy inside her head but him and Kami has such an interesting relationship, I loved seeing how things developed and changed for them both.

Final Thoughts
I definitely recommend Unspoken if you’re looking for a paranormal book which is different from any other paranormal book in many ways. Brennan has created a story with a magical feeling to it which will have you laughing out loud as well as on the edge of your seat. Don’t miss out!

I found out about this book randomly on goodreads and thought it sounded so good! I have read a book kinda like this and I loved it so I definitely have high hopes for it.
I asked the publishers about it and they VERY kindly sent me it for review. I put it high on my TBR but I just haven't got to it yet. I have to admit I am glad that I read the blurb because this sort of cover wouldn't usually grab my attention so I probably wouldn't have been interested otherwise.
Let me know if you have read this and direct me to any links, would be interesting to see some reviews.
