 .................................... The Blurb  ....................................
From the bestselling author of If I Stay - this summer's YA blockbuster film.

This characteristically powerful novel follows eighteen-year-old Cody Reynolds in the months following her best friend's shocking suicide.

As Cody numbly searches for answers as to why Meg took her own life, she begins a journey of self-discovery which takes her to a terrifying precipice, and forces her to question not only her relationship with the Meg she thought she knew, but her own understanding of life, love, death and forgiveness.

A phenomenally moving story, I Was Here explores the sadly all-too-familiar issue of suicide and self-harm, addressing it in an authentic way with sensitivity and honesty.

 .................................... My Thoughts   ....................................
In Short
- I wish I was able to have given his book more time.
- The characters are powerful and real.
-  I definitely recommend this!

In Long
I started reading this around a busy time in my life, moving house AND Christmas. This is definitely a regret because I think 'I Was Here' needs your attention and would be better read within a few days. I believe if I had read it within a few days I would have been able to get into the storyline more. As it was I struggled to become entwined in the story line as much as I like to when reading and only found myself completely spellbound by it a few times. This I dont understand myself because despite the amazing writing from Gayle the storyline for me just never became addictive.

The storyline may not have 'done it' for me but WOW did the characters! Gayle has a very special talent when it comes to creating her characters and making them come alive. Their feelings are so raw and real and despite Meg never actually being alive in the book her character ; personality and past, were explored just as much as Cody's. Providing not just one powerful character but a good handful.

Final Thoughts
I really recommend this book and feel so pleased that authors like Gayle are tackling such difficult subjects in such a delicate but truthful manner.

  1. I really enjoyed this one as well. Wasn't as emotionally invested in this one as previous books by Gayle Forman but man, I think she writes a beautiful story!
